The figures of an incomparable tourist offer

When tourism is mentioned in Italy, one always thinks of Tuscany. It is one of the main Italian tourist destinations, chosen by millions of tourists every year for holidays of any length. For example, in 2010, over 11,5 million Italians and foreigners had holidays in Tuscany, using the 8,000 accommodation facilities located in the region (over 3,000 hotels, 2,044 holiday homes and rooms for rent, 3,800 bed and breakfasts, 228 campsites and tourist villages and 209 other facilities), with over 400,000 beds available.

The reason for this success? There are at least 1,843 good reasons: 900 seaside resorts (28 in the islands, 123 in the Grosseto area, 86 in the province of Livorno, 161 in the province of Massa Carrara, 70 around Pisa and 431 in the province of Lucca); 39 spas located throughout the region; 211 protected areas, natural parks and reserves, covering a total of 210,000 hectares (almost 10% of the entire region); 479 museums; 160 historical villas and gardens to be visited; 78 historical hamlets, of which 32 (a record in Italy) have an orange flag, assigned by the Touring Club to small villages in the hinterland capable of combining development with environmental and territorial sustainability, and not only.

Choosing Tuscany for one’s holidays also means being one of the privileged spectators of a rich calendar of quality events. There are 63 festivals held in Tuscany every year: 8 musical festivals (jazz, blues, religious music, folk music, classical music, etc.); 12 theatre reviews; 7 dance festivals; 36 art and entertainment festivals of various sorts, ranging from music to theatre and cabaret. Not forgetting the major events organised by town and villages during the summer (such as the “Effetto Venezia” in Livorno and “Lunatica” in Massa-Carrara, for example).
